Final Object

Unfortunately sort of a disappointing final update on my object. I am really unhappy with how this turned out.

After removing the support material yesterday and curing the resin, I started sanding, and in that process, one side of the claw snapped in two. I was able to superglue it back together (but the superglue actually somehow ended up in my hair? I literally had to cut like two inches of hair because the actual bottle of superglue somehow wound up in my hair. I wish I was kidding). Then I opted for glossy black spray paint, which developed bubbles overnight as it dried, so now it doesn't really look very polished. I think I should have gone for matte paint. I noticed here that the removable wings don't fit into the slots securely either like they previously did in my FDM tests. Then, I went to pop in the iridescent acrylic, and just my luck, it doesn't fit. After 6 laser cut tests, it doesn't fit. So really all of that work on creating a gallery to fit those pieces was sort of useless in the end. Before my resin print, I had the acrylic fitted and all the dimensions perfected. The only thing that I changed from the file I used on the FDM printers is those little dots, which shouldn't have affected any of these issues. If anyone can give me some insight into why this happened, please enlighten me because I don't understand. And then as the cherry on top, once putting together the object with the mechanism, I went to put it in my hair for a photo and it snapped. Basically everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I'm really really frustrated because I spent the whole twelve weeks on this object and I don't even have anything to show for it.

Here are few photos I got before it snapped:

With removable wing:

On a more positive note, although I am super disappointed about the final outcome, I did learn really valuable skills about testing and prototyping in this course that I will carry for years to come. I really love my digital design of this object in Rhino, it's just the output where everything went wrong. I haven't given up on this object yet, so trust I will be back next year to revise it some more!
